Statue “The Little Fisherman” (“Michalaki”)

Walking in Yalos, one encounters the bronze statue of a young boy standing on a rock, holding a fishing rod, facing the sea. “The Little Fisherman” (“Michalaki”) is an artwork of the great Symiot sculptor Kostas Valsamis. It represents the daily engagement of the inhabitants of the island with fishing, as well as life in the island in general. Apart from the “Little Fisherman”, other works of Valsamis on the island are the Bust of Professor Michael Volonakis, the Dove of Peace and the Memorial (Heroon) at Panormitis representing the execution of three members of the Resistance in 1944.
