Petrideion Clock Tower in Yalos is a landmark of the island. It replaced old sundials used in various places in the city of Symi, marking the new neighbourhood of Mouragio at the end of the 19th century. Its construction, -probably in memory of the imposing “Big Ben” of the British capital-, was financed by Petridis brothers who were commercially active in London. It was to become one of the most characteristic elements of the island, as it is the first thing visitors can see when getting off the ship.
